Ferrari has revealed yet another race version of its fabulous 458 Italia. The Sporty Ferrari 458 GT2 has been caught out in the open doing some testing on the Fiorano race track. This time, it’s the GT2, which meets all the GT2 requirements, including, sadly, an engine which is limited to 470 HP. Adhering to regulations as a GT2 racer, the 458 GT2 comes with a 4.5 liter V8 with 470 PS (464 bhp / 346 kW) and weighs in at 1245 kg (2745 lbs). The GT2 will feature a new 6-speed Hewland sequential gearbox, as opposed to the standard model’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Maranello’s previous road car-based V8 racers – the 360 GTC and F430 GT2 – were wildly successful competition cars. At 1245kg, this GT2-certified 458 is 250kg lighter than its roadgoing sibling – yet again, 27kg heavier than its F430 GT2 predecessor though. Set to retail for R4.4-million, the 458 GT2 is expected to establish a similar dominance in GT2 racing as its F430 GT2 predecessor, which managed to win its class in both the American Le Mans Series and FIA GT championship. The new GT2 racing variant spotted just builds on what makes the production car great.
